How do you want to grow?


Are you someone that wants to Grow, Learn, Share and Improve.  I do try...  Everyday or everyday is a great opportunity to improve.

I might use my blog as more of a list of activities I'm doing but I'll attempt to push that forward into how you can grow, learn, share and improve yourself.

Manager Tools:  One-On-Ones Part 1

  • Talk at least once a week
  • 30 minutes (10 minutes - them, 10 minutes - you, 10 minutes - future)
  • Know each individual 
  • Don't throw them a vague question 
  • Have individual go first
  • Primary focus is about the Individual/Team Member 
  • Scheduling is very important.  OK, if need to move it but it must be Done
  • Should be done weekly.  Monthly doesn't do it because you forget and doesn't show you care.

Performance Review Time!

Its  Performance Time ! Over the past 20+ years, I've both gotten performance reviews and given them in many of them too.  As a manager, it’s something you do once per year. Sure, you might do quarterly reviews or semi-annual reviews to make sure associates are on track but everyone cares about the annual review.  They are stressful for both the associate and the manager.  Everyone asks, why I didn't exceed my goals and/or how does this impact my merit increase. Managers have to make extremely tough decision to do what is best both for the organization as well as to meet the budget guidelines we are given. I’d first like to ask the question, do most people even like getting their performance review?  I suspect not.  I’m guessing most would just like to hear the merit increase and move forward. Why? Unit Test - Given When Then style

Really nice sample I found on the web that Explains the Given-When-Then Syntax style. The Given When Then style correlates closely to the Arrange Act Assert style for unit testing.
